Takamori often uses the child figure in his work, which relates to the Japanese term Karako, the depiction of children as a metaphor for youth. For Takamori, youth is not a signifier of inexperience by rather as a refreshing optimism, where ideas and energies have boundless potential. The young female figure in particular is part of his exploration and desire for a better humanity embodied by the idea of the powerful young woman who is free to be who she is – free from racial, cultural, religious and political bias. –Artist statement
