Bedroom 1/ Elevation

Bedroom (Elevation 1) is part of an ongoing series featuring mail order catalog pages that I've photographed and combined with elements from fairy tales. This piece uses elements from "The Princess and the Pea" and an anatomical heart reminiscent of heart milagros of the Southwest, where I grew up. I'm interested in the overlap between our shared ideals of material success and the American "pursuit of happiness" as reflected in fairy tales and myth, and how they intersect with a culture that not only encourages, but is economically dependent on, consumerism. –Artist statement
